Chuck Reynolds, MS, president, The Benfield Group, St Louis, Missouri, says consumer-directed health plans (CDHPs) are important for employers, especially in light of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

“Part of the ACA requires that employers get under a ‘limbo bar’ of healthcare benefit by 2018, or they’re going to face an excise tax,” he says.

Mr Reynolds adds that employers can reduce the costs of health benefits by becoming self-insured and by adopting CDHPs into their organizations.
