Dr Manisha Madhoo on the Benefits of Mydayis for Adult ADHD
The new ADHD drug for adults, Mydayis, works with multiple beads being released at different times of the day so patients are only taking one medication that lasts for up to 16 hours instead of multiple dosings throughout the day, explained Manisha Madhoo, MD, vice president of Global Medical Affairs, Neuroscience, Shire.
Transcript What does Mydayis offer for adults with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)?
Mydayis is a treatment for ADHD. It is indicated in 13 years and older patient population who suffer from ADHD. It is a triple-bead, mixed amphetamine salt, whereby the the first bead is immediate release, and the 2 beads are released at a certain time with the pHs.
How can a 16-hour therapeutic option offer the possibility of better adherence compared with regimens that pair an extended release prescription with an immediate release prescription?
We've noted that there are so many patients that take an extended release either first thing in the morning followed by an 8 hours later an immediate release, or sometimes it's also vice versa, where they're taking more than 1 medication for their management of ADHD. For Mydayis specifically, we studied a 25 mg of mixed amphetamine salt, plus a 12 mg of a mixed amphetamine salt followed by 8 hours later to show you that Mydayis is a once-daily treatment that can really be allowed to be used up to 16 hours without having to take the 2 dosings at different times per day.
