A piece by PatientEngagementHIT referenced a study published in the May 2020 issue of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®), titled “Medical Home Effects on Enrollees With Mental and Physical Illness.” The study found that medical home enrollment had mixed effects on acute care use and a large effect on outpatient care use, whereas effects on expenditures varied by mental illness.

A release posted on PR Newswire highlighted a study published in the March 2020 issue of AJMC®. The study, “Payer Effects of Personalized Preventive Care for Patients With Diabetes,” examined the effects of MD—Value in Prevention (MDVIP) enrollment on Medicare expenditures and utilization among fee-for-service beneficiaries with diabetes over a 5-year period. Study findings indicated that MDVIP enrollees exhibited reduced unplanned inpatient admissions and emergency department utilization.

An article by Healio News, titled “Provider, pharmacist collaborations increase patient check-ins,” cited a study published in the March 2020 issue of The American Journal of Accountable Care®, a sister journal of AJMC®. The study, “Implementation of Pharmacist-Driven Comprehensive Medication Management as Part of an Interdisciplinary Team in Primary Care Physicians’ Offices,” describes the initial implementation of pharmacist-performed comprehensive medication management as part of an interdisciplinary care team at an accountable care organization’s primary care offices.
