Marc Boutin Discusses Improving Quality While Reducing Costs

Video

Aligning the care delivered with the patient's own desires is the biggest opportunity available to drive costs down while improving quality, according to Marc Boutin, JD, chief executive officer of the National Health Council.

Balancing the need to improve quality while simultaneously driving cost down has been a challenge in US healthcare for decades, and the biggest opportunity to make some progress is through focusing care on the patient's desire, said Marc Boutin, JD, chief executive officer of the National Health Council, at the Pharmacy Quality Alliance's 10th Annual Meeting in Arlington, Virginia.

"If you align the care that is provided to the patient, it helps them achieve their goals, their aspirations, and it allows you to eliminate the care that they don't want," he said.
