This supplement to The American Journal of Managed Care provides an overview of the importance of treatment adherence to HIV therapeutic regimens and approaches to improving adherence. Also discussed are the prevalence of diarrhea in patients with HIV; the impact of diarrhea on quality of life; the potential effect of diarrhea on adherence to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART); and the diagnosis and management of HAART-related diarrhea.
