Cleveland Clinic CEO Dr. Toby Cosgrove will not take over the scandal-ridden Veterans Affairs Department and will remain in his current job.

Cleveland Clinic CEO Dr. Toby Cosgrove will not take over the scandal-ridden Veterans Affairs Department and will remain in his current job.

In a statement released Saturday, June 7, Cosgrove said he was humbled and honored to have been considered for the post. He described the VA post as “an enormous responsibility and one that deserved careful thought and consideration.”

“This has been an extraordinarily difficult decision, but I have decided to withdraw from consideration from this position and remain at the Cleveland Clinic, due to the commitment I have made to the organization, our patients and the work that still needs to be done here," Cosgrove said in the statement.
