The report, sponsored by the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative, reviewed 28 studies of PCMHs over a 1 year period; some of the studies found improved utilization resulted in an improvement in at least 1 cost metric.
Patients cared for in patient-centered medical homes (PCMHs) had improvements in healthcare utilization and also in some measures of cost, according to a report released here.
The report was sponsored by the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative (PCPCC) with support from the Milbank Memorial Fund, a foundation that seeks to improve population health by connecting leaders with the best available evidence. It examined the results of 28 studies of PCMHs that were published from September 2013 to October 2014: 14 peer-reviewed studies, seven state evaluations of PCMHs, and seven industry reports. The studies looked at patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and provider satisfaction.
