Dr. Michael Duch Reveals How a Payer and Group of Orthopedic Physicians Are Collaborating to Devise Best Practices

Article

In this video, Dr. Michael Duch of Trenton Orthopaedic Group, discusses the Major Joint Replacement Episode of Care Pilot Program--initiated by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey--a project aimed at reducing variations in care by creating standardized best practices for managing hip and knee replacement surgeries.

Dr. Duch explains that this pilot program brings together the insurer and 5 orthopaedic surgeons to discuss how they each manage their practices, then examine the differences and work collaboratively toward a set of best practices that aims to streamline to 3 months each episode of care, being the time from when a physician determines which preoperatives tests to order to post-surgical rehabilition.
