During the last Institute for Value-Based Medicine® (IVBM®) event for 2019, oncologists and others shared their thoughts, successes, and frustrations with the current Oncology Care Model (OCM). The October 24 meeting took place a little more than a week before CMS released its request for information for the forthcoming Oncology Care First, which is slated to follow the OCM when that payment model expires in 2021.
In today’s Managed Care Cast, we bring you portions of the panel discussion, as well as the question and answer session. The panel was moderated by co-chair of the event, Aaron Lyss, MBA, the director of strategy and business development at Tennessee Oncology, as well as co-chair Steven Schleicher, MD, MBA, a physician at Tennessee Oncology and also chair of the quality and value committee of OneOncology. They were joined by Michael Kolodziej, MD, FACP, vice president and chief innovation officer at ADVI Health; Miranda Lam, MD, MBA, a radiation oncologist of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center, and Robert Daly, MD, a physician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and part of their Strategy and Innovation Center.
The discussion touched on all aspects of delivering oncology care, including how to pay for innovative therapies, biosimilars, and the role of technology in patient care.
