HHS Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell's announcement that CMS would move to value-based payments was a nail in the coffin for those skeptics who believed the push for value contracting would pass, according to Joseph Gifford, MD, chief executive of the Providence-Swedish Health Alliance.
Since there have always been skeptics about accountable care organizations and managed care movement, the recent announcement from HHS Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell that CMS would be moving to value-based payments is a big deal, according to Joseph Gifford, MD, chief executive of the Providence-Swedish Health Alliance.
The message from Secretary Burwell was a nail in the coffin for the idea that this push for value contracting was going to pass.
"And this isn't the Affordable Care Act, where there are a lot of political arguments about it," he said. "I think people recognize that this is bipartisan and it's here to stay."
