Jennifer Malin, MD, Explains Payer Role In Changing Cancer Care

Video

While the shift to cancer becoming more of a chronic disease does not have a huge change on the approach of the payer, there are some new challenges to address, said Jennifer Malin, MD, medical director for oncology at Anthem.

While innovations have made cancer more of a chronic disease, the shift does not change the approach of the payer too much, but there are some new challenges to address, said Jennifer Malin, MD, medical director for oncology at Anthem.

“We still look to figure out how we have access for our members to cancer care; we still look to provide care over the long term,” says Dr Malin.

However, she adds that it becomes more challenging to understand the data, where the gaps are and what the opportunities are when members transition to chronic care.
