AJMC: Adler-Milstein to Serve as Guest Editor of Annual HIT Issue

PLAINSBORO, N.J. — Julia Adler-Milstein, an assistant professor at the University of Michigan who has published extensively on the adoption of health information technology (HIT), will serve as guest editor for the annual issue of The American Journal of Managed Care devoted to HIT.

Adler-Milstein, jointly appointed to Michigan’s School of Information and its School of Public Health, has led a series of national surveys on health information exchange, which have tracked progress over time and identified barriers to broad-based flow of clinical data between care delivery settings. Her research also examines the effect of HIT implementation on healthcare cost and efficiency.

Besides AJMC, Adler-Milstein has published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, Health Affairs, and the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Adler-Milstein completed her PhD in health policy from Harvard in 2011 and received the outstanding dissertation award from AcademyHealth that year. She received her undergraduate degree in human biology from Stanford University, and worked in the healthcare industry as an analyst before entering graduate school.

“I am thrilled to serve as guest editor and build on AJMC’s incredible success in publishing transformative HIT research,” Adler-Milstein said. “This should be the year when the evidence base can take a giant leap forward in promoting our understanding of how HIT can be used to consistently produce better health and healthcare. I am excited to have a front-row seat.”

AJMC’s issue on HIT, which will publish in September 2014, will mark the fourth year for this special issue. Now in its 20th year, AJMC is the leading peer-reviewed journal devoted to issues in managed care. In December 2013, AJMC launched The American Journal of Accountable Care, which publishes research and commentary specific to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
