America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) said Wednesday that its board of directors has chosen Matt Eyles, its current senior executive vice president and chief operating officer, to succeed Marilyn Tavenner as its new president and chief executive officer.
The move is effective June 1. AHIP said Eyles has worked closely with Tavenner—who is retiring—the Board, and AHIP members on a variety of issues and initiatives.
“It is an honor to represent insurance providers and the members they serve,” Eyles said in a statement. “We will continue to focus on solutions that deliver more affordable choices and higher quality for every American. It’s also an honor to have worked with and learned from Marilyn. For more than 40 years, she has driven important changes that have directly improved the lives of patients, consumers, and hardworking taxpayers.”
Eyles has led the policy and regulatory affairs function, including the Medicare and Medicaid, state policy, and product policy departments.
Eyles joined AHIP from Avalere Health. Before Avalere, he worked in public policy divisions of what would later become parts of different pharmaceutical companies. He began his career at the Congressional Budget Office.
