Interoperability Remains Elusive EHR Goal

As physicians and other health professionals become increasingly familiar with the digital universe, many of them like what they have found but want more, especially more seamless information exchange between hospital records and physician practice-based electronic health records.

The importance of that goal, known in the IT world as interoperability, was front and center at a panel discussion of real-world EHR issues at the recent Digital Health Conference in New York.

"Half the time important decisions are made with inadequate information," A. John Blair III, MD, CEO of MedAllies told MedPage Today. "I think it's important for clinicians to understand the capabilities of the programs that are in the early beginning phases and coming in the future."
