Patrick Courneya, MD, CHIE, health plan medical director, HealthPartners, Inc, says that his organization sees a wide variety of models in Minnesota. The spectrum of models include single specialty primary care groups, who deliver the highest quality of care based on measures within the marketplace, to large multispecialty groups who compete effectively within the triple aim.
Dr Courneya says care delivery systems often provide services to patients in high population areas, as well as those in lower-populated areas. The challenges and solutions for each population are vastly different. “As we as a health plan work with those different organizations, we need to understand in detail about their world, their tools, their capabilities, and their aspirations as care delivery systems and as communities,” said Dr Courneya.
