What was a key takeaway from the 2017 Spring Live Meeting of the ACO & Emerging Healthcare Delivery Coalition®?

Among the multiple key takeaways from our meeting this week, one stands out in particular and that is given that we care about alternative payment mechanisms and given that we care about value—and obviously you can't look at accountable care organizations and improving managed care without value—the key takeaway from this meeting is that we are making a lot of progress, we are making a lot of progress in understanding what means value and how we might bridge the better understanding of value into decision making—clinical decision making and other—into how we organize and deliver and finance healthcare that is increasingly value based.

And what you can accomplish at a meeting like this, as we did this week, is bring together folks from around the country who are trying out various approaches. They're basically coming up with alternative models to incorporate value into alternative payment mechanisms and we're learning kind of the upsides and the downsides of those alternative approaches. That exchange and sharing of information from people that are not involved in these decisions in a real-time basis in their day-to-day lives, before and after this meeting, is the kind of thing that can augment the experience for all the people who do participate.

There are learnings to be had, there are real-life models that are cranking out information about what works and doesn't work, and that feedback is something that can be shared with all of our participants. That's the key takeaway.
