5. The Importance of Adding the Diabetes Prevention Program to Medicare

In April, Medicare took the historic step of launching the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), an evidence-based program that has been shown to reduce the incidence of people with prediabetes progressing to type 2 diabetes. Before DPP launched, Brenda Schmidt, chief executive officer of Solera Health, an integrator that serves as the “back office” for both community-based and digital providers of the DPP, discussed the historic importance of adding the DPP to Medicare, key features of the final rule, and what health plans needed to do to be ready to meet client needs starting in April.

Brufsky, MD, PhD, codirector of the Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center at University of Pittsburgh, explains how to decide between chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, or targeted therapy for patients and what role diagnostic tests can play.

At the beginning of 2018, AJMC® published a Peer Exchange with a panel of experts in infectious disease and managed care who discussed today’s management of HIV, including the need for individualized care and the role of newer treatment options.

1. Rick Doubleday Outlines the Partnership Between Dexcom and Fitbit

Dexcom develops, manufactures, and distributes continuous glucose monitoring systems for diabetes management, and in late 2017, it partnered with Fitbit. Rick Doubleday, the executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Dexcom, sat in AJMC®’s studio to discuss the partnership with Fitbit and what patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes would get out of it.
