A piece by Barron's referenced an article published in an August 2020 supplement to The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®). The article, “Economic Burden of Alzheimer Disease and Managed Care Considerations,” indicated that total health care costs for the treatment of Alzheimer disease in 2020 are estimated at $305 billion, with the cost expected to increase to more than $1 trillion as the population ages.
An editorial by the Star Tribune in response to a shooting at a Minnesota clinic cited a commentary published in the December 2020 issue of AJMC® titled “The Persistent Pandemic of Violence Against Health Care Workers.” The commentary described the problem of health care workplace violence, including a poll finding that 71% of American doctors reported experiencing at least 1 incident of violence, and offered potential steps to address the issue.
