Coverage of our peer-reviewed research and news reporting in the health care and mainstream press.

The study “Cost of Behavioral Messaging Interventions for Cardiovascular Medication Adherence,” published in the June issue of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®), found that across 3 health systems in the Nudge Study, the average monthly cost to run text-messaging interventions, generic reminders, optimized behavioral nudges, and optimized messages with chatbot features was $2.76 per patient per month, with no significant cost differences between the three approaches.

Rethinking Clinical Trials used the AJMC study’s cost findings to make its case that text message medication reminders are a low-cost, scalable intervention health systems can adopt to improve cardiovascular medication adherence.

The research “Blood Pressure Control Among Adherent vs Nonadherent Medicare Patients With Hypertension,” published in AJMC’s July 2026 issue, found that among 5206 Medicare and Medicare Advantage patients eligible for the Medication Adherence for Hypertension measure, 77.2% of adherent patients achieved blood pressure control below 140/90 mm Hg versus 73.5% of nonadherent patients, a statistically significant but clinically modest gap that narrowed further under the stricter 130/80 mm Hg threshold.

In its coverage, InsuranceNewsNet highlighted the University of Colorado Anschutz findings to report on how medication adherence relates to actual blood pressure control among Medicare patients with hypertension, using the study’s own citation as its sourcing for the underlying data.

The article, “ACA Marketplace Deductibles Surge $1000 in 2026 as Enhanced Tax Credits Expire,” published on AJMC.com, found that the average Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace deductible jumped 37% in 2026, from $2759 to $3786, the steepest one-year increase in the program’s history, driven largely by enrollees shifting from silver to bronze plans as enhanced premium tax credits expired.

247wallst.com cited AJMC’s reporting on marketplace deductibles surging as the enhanced credits lapsed, drawing on it to help ground its explanation of how ACA subsidies are calculated from a retiree’s tax return income rather than their portfolio assets, even for someone sitting on $2 million in savings.

The analysis “AMCP 2026 Spotlights New Era for Specialty Drug Market,” published on AJMC.com, found that specialty drugs account for roughly half of all pharmacy spend while being used by only about 2% of patients, with gross specialty costs per member projected to climb 32% through 2028.

In its press release, Morningstar/PR Newswire cited this AJMC article to frame the scale of the specialty drug cost problem, using it as the backdrop for World Class Health's announcement that its new home infusion program cuts employer costs by roughly 46%, or $30,000 to $50,000 annually per patient moved out of the hospital setting.
