From "Hellish" to Healthcare: The ACA in Maine 1 Year Later

A year ago, some Maine residents would have described the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as "hellish." Since then, a lot has changed. And a lot has stayed the same.

A year ago, some Maine residents would have described the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as “hellish.”

HealthCare.gov kept failing. Phone lines jammed for the popular new health insurance co-op in Lewiston. Signing up for health insurance took longer than flying across the country. And despite the frustration, these were the lucky ones. In comparison to this experience were the very poor who couldn’t get insurance, period.

Since then, a lot has changed. And a lot has stayed the same.
