Grand Rapids, Michigan — President and CEO of Priority Health Praveen Thadani traveled to the White House in late March to participate in a Cancer Moonshot discussion on how to improve and optimize patient navigation services in the oncology space, alongside First Lady Dr Jill Biden.
The first lady and Thadani, who recently lost his father to cancer, both emphasized the vital role a patient navigator fills for patients on this difficult, often uncertain, journey, noting that navigators help guide patients and their families and caregivers through the complex maze of the cancer care system.
“I saw firsthand through my father’s experience how complicated the journey can be,” said Thadani. “When you suffer from cancer, you go through a range of emotions, including fear, loss, anxiety and feeling overwhelmed. Navigators are a positive first step to offer much-needed support for cancer patients, caregivers and families during such a complex journey.”
The second largest health plan in Michigan, Priority Health servies more than 1.3 million members, offering both Medicare and Medicaid plan options.
