Here are 5 interesting findings from the January 2019 issue of AJMC®.
Hi, I’m Christina Mattina for The American Journal of Managed Care®. Here are 5 findings from research published in the January health information technology (IT) issue.
Understanding the Relationship Between Data Breaches and Hospital Advertising Expenditures
1. Hospitals that experienced data breaches had 64% higher advertising expenditures in the 2 years after a breach compared with hospitals that were not breached, likely representing efforts to mend the hospital’s public image.
Inpatient Electronic Health Record Maintenance From 2010 to 2015
2. Electronic health record (EHR) systems require significant maintenance efforts over time, as one health system’s EHR had over 5500 updates and upgrades made in the 6 years after its implementation.
Alternative Payment Models and Hospital Engagement in Health Information Exchange
3. Hospital participation in an alternative payment model was associated with sharing more data types, exchanging data with more partner types, and using a push and pull approach to exchange data, but these hospitals sent data for fewer discharges.
4. Hospitals across the United States vary widely in their adoption of advanced health IT capabilities, and at least some of this variation can be explained by their organizational structure and extent of EHR standardization.
Patient and Clinician Experiences With Telehealth for Patient Follow-up Care
5. As more healthcare providers experiment with telehealth instead of in-person visits, an analysis of surveys found that most patients and clinicians reported no difference in the overall quality of a virtual video visit compared with an office visit.
