FDA Clears Dexcom G6 Pro CGM System for Healthcare Use

Dexcom, Inc. announced this week that the FDA has cleared the company's Dexcom G6 Pro Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System for use by healthcare professionals among patients ages 2 years and above. The Dexcom G6 Pro is a novel single use, professional CGM that gathers real-time glucose data over a 10-day period and additionally offers both a blinded and unblinded mode. Both modes enable providers gathering glucose data to adjust a patient’s diabetes therapy plan, as well as use the data to help patients alter their daily behavior based on variables that affect their glucose levels such as food, exercise, stress, and medication.

Cleveland Clinic and Oscar Expand Health Insurance to More Ohio Counties

Cleveland Clinic and Oscar today announced an expansion of their co-branded health insurance plans, known as Cleveland Clinic + Oscar, by offering 2020 healthcare coverage to individuals and families of the Ohio counties of Ashtabula, Geauga, and Portage. The move comes amid the partnership's success since launching in 2018 and will mark Cleveland Clinic’s first entry into the health insurance market with a product bearing its name. Currently, the partnership serves 11,000 Ohio members in Cuyahoga, Summit, Lorain, Medina, and Lake Counties. Plans will be sold to consumers on and off the Ohio health insurance exchange during the open enrollment period beginning November 1 and will go into effect starting January 1, 2020.

Planned Parenthood Announces 2020 Election Spend

Yesterday, Planned Parenthood announced they will spend a record-high of $45 million ahead of the 2020 presidential elections, with plans to back candidates in local, state, and national races who support abortion rights. NPR reports that the organization’s priorities will be to unseat President Trump, promote the control of Democrats in the US Senate and House of Representatives, and to assist candidates who support abortion rights in state-level races. The campaign will include digital, television, and radio ads being rolled out later this year, as well as direct mail and voter canvassing beginning in 2020.
