A STAT News opinion column by Ken Cohen, MD, chief medical officer of Optum Health, cited a study published online early ahead of the May 2026 issue of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®). The study, “Health Outcomes of Dually Eligible Beneficiaries Under Different Medicare Payment Arrangements,” found differences in care quality and utilization for dual-eligible beneficiaries treated under varying payment models, with 2-sided risk models associated with better care. Cohen theorizes that the time and financial flexibility accorded to providers under full-risk models allows them to engage with patients meaningfully and integrate evidence-based best practices into their work.
An article published by Healio covered the findings of a study published in the January 2026 Health Information Technology theme issue of AJMC. In “Ambient AI Tool Adoption in US Hospitals and Associated Factors,” investigators found that adoption of these tools was associated with workload, financial performance, ownership, and select structural characteristics. The Healio article interviewed senior author Ilana Graetz, PhD, for her insights on the findings’ implications.
A piece in the West Milford Messenger referenced a feature article published on AJMC.com, the website of AJMC. “How Insurance Claim Denials Harm Patients’ Health, Finances” contains the statistic that denial rates rose 16% from 2018 to 2024, and the news piece describes the experiences of a patient whose case illustrates this national trend.
