CPOE Simulation Finds Missed Errors

In a simulated test of the computerized physician order entry systems at 253 hospitals, more than a third missed routine medication orders and just over 1% missed medication errors that would have resulted in a fatality.

The test was conducted by the Leapfrog Group coalition of major employer healthcare purchasers during the last three months of 2011 by hospitals voluntarily responding to the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, according to a news release.
