Dr. Michael Cropp Discusses How Models are Redesigning the Healthcare System

Michael Cropp, MD, MBA, President and Chief Executive Officer, Independent Health, believes Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) are one of the current models redesigning the healthcare system.

Michael Cropp, MD, MBA, President and Chief Executive Officer, Independent Health, believes Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) are one of the current models redesigning the healthcare system. ACOs bring “accountability beyond health plans, to organizations that are willing to come together,” says Dr Cropp. These organizations “take responsibility for managing the care of a population for a fixed amount of reimbursement.”

Beyond ACOs, Dr Cropp said that insurers like Independent Health are becoming more accountable by working with primary care physicians. By connecting physicians with other institutions and specialists, they can deliver care beyond the primary care scope.
