Will Share Personal Account of Managing Condition at AJMC Event:
Patient-Centered Diabetes Care: Putting Theory into Practice
PLAINSBORO, N.J. — Baseball Hall of Famer Lou Brock, best known as one of the game’s most prolific base stealers, will share his story of dealing with diabetes at an April conference, hosted by The American Journal of Managed Care, devoted to bringing the recent advances in managing the disease into practice.
Brock will be speaking April 10 at an evening reception to open “Patient Centered Diabetes Care: Putting Theory into Practice,” to be held at the Princeton Marriott at Forrestal April 10-11.
“We are thrilled to have one of baseball’s most respected stars join us for this meeting,” said Brian Haug, president of AJMC. “Our goal is to bring together key leaders from across the spectrum of diabetes care to share ideas on helping patients as we all navigate healthcare reform. Lou Brock will share a story we need to hear: what it’s like to manage diabetes day to day.”
Brock played in Major League Baseball for 19 seasons, starting with the Chicago Cubs before moving to the St. Louis Cardinals, where he helped lead that team to three National League pennants and two World Series titles. Each year the National League bestows the “Lou Brock Award” to the player with the most stolen bases in that league. Brock was elected to the Hall of Fame on the first ballot in 1985.
The lineup for April 11 includes keynote speaker Dr. Robert A. Gabbay, Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Mass.; Dr. Josh Benner, RxAnte, a leading voice on medication adherence; Dr. Geoffrey Joyce, of the University of Southern California, and Dr. Deneen Vojta, of United Healthcare’s Center for Health Reform and Modernization. Dr. Vojta has been a leader in initiatives that focus on prevention and childhood obesity intervention.
