Joesph Antos on the Concerns and Challenges Facing Medicare Reform

Joseph Antos, the Wilson H. Taylor Scholar in Health Care and Retirement Policy, American Enterprise Institute, says the federal Medicare program not only has a spending problem, but a delivery system problem that the fee-for-service model has not solved.

Joseph Antos, the Wilson H. Taylor Scholar in Health Care and Retirement Policy, American Enterprise Institute, says the federal Medicare program not only has a spending problem, but a delivery system problem that the fee-for-service model has not solved. “Medicare has obvious financial challenges, but it also has real challenges meeting the needs and expectations of seniors today and well into the future,” Mr Antos told The American Journal of Managed Care.

Mr Antos suggests that if the accountable care organization model works, it may show promise for greater coordination of care in Medicare.

"I think much more has to be done to solve these twin problems of a program that doesn’t meet expectations, and is on the road to spending an enormous amount of money,” said Mr Antos.
