As healthcare data breaches continue to rise, a team of researchers identified locations in hospitals where data are breached, the types of breaches that occur most often at hospitals, and hospital characteristics that may predict large data breaches that affect 500 or more patients.
While we recognize that healthcare data breaches are on the rise, it is difficult to identify the characteristics of these breaches in order to prevent them. A team of researchers took on the challenge and identified locations in hospitals where data are breached, the types of breaches that occur most often at hospitals, and hospital characteristics that may predict large data breaches that affect 500 or more patients. Their study findings were published in the February 2018 issue of The American Journal of Managed Care®.
In this podcast, we speak with 4 of the researchers about the study findings, why the findings are significant, and the advice they have for hospitals trying to reduce their risk of experiencing a breach.
