Several studies have indicated that nearly half of physicians feel burned out, and more than two-thirds have reported physician burnout as a "serious" or "moderate" issue within their organization. Many have argued that the mass adoption of electronic health records and the push toward interoperability have exacerbated the issue due to the overwhelming amounts of data that need to be collected during the patient visit.
In addition to the emotional and physical impact of burnout on physicians and other members of the care team, hospitals and health systems also face a growing financial impact.
With increasing recognition of burnout on the healthcare system, organizations nationwide have been launching initiatives to tackle the issue.
