AJAC to be Media Sponsor for Landmark ACO Event

PLAINSBORO, N.J. — The American Journal of Accountable Care, created to publish insights about nation’s transition into healthcare reform, will be the official media sponsor of an historic gathering of leaders from accountable care organizations (ACOs), the delivery vehicles created by the Accountable Care Act to transform the fee-for-service system into one that rewards quality.

AJAC will be the media sponsor for a seminar set for March 27-28, 2014, at Innisbrook Golf and Spa Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla., sponsored by TripleAim ACO Consulting Group. TripleAim’s mission for the event is to share how the 29 ACOs that experienced shared savings of $126 million in 2012 accomplished the task, and to guide newer ACOs to success.

"The creation of ACOs as a way to fundamentally change the reward structure for healthcare is an essential component of the reform movement, and one that most experts believe will outlast whatever political tinkering occurs on the consumer side of the equation,” said Brian Haug, AJAC’s publisher. “We founded AJAC as a forum for sharing ideas as ACOs emerge as the vehicle for making quality the yardstick for measuring how well healthcare is being delivered, so it is a natural fit that we are a partner for this historic meeting.”

Triple Aim ACO Consulting Group was founded by experienced health care professionals who describe themselves as “passionate” about changing the nation’s broken health care system. Founders describe Triple Aim as “singularly focused on providing services to ACOs in order to increase their rate of success, and to ensure that more people receive higher quality, lower cost care.”

AJAC is a publication of The American Journal of Managed Care, the leading peer-reviewed journal in managed care, now in its 20th year of publication. AJAC was created in December 2013 to focus intently on the implementation of healthcare reform, and it publishes original research, commentary and conference coverage on the historic transition in healthcare.

The event, which begins Thursday at 5 p.m. and concludes Friday at 5 p.m., features a roster of renowned speakers, including Farzad Mostashari, MD, the former national director of health information technology for the US Department of Human Services, and now a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institute. Dr. Mostashari is also a contributor to this month’s issue of AJAC, writing, “Four Key Technologies for Physician-Led Accountable Care Organizations.” He also served as guest editor for the most recent special HIT edition of The American Journal of Managed Care.

Other speakers include Terri Postma, MD, medical officer for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), Hymin Zucker, MD, medical director, and Kelly Conroy, executive director of Palm Beach Accountable Care in Palm Beach County, Florida and South Florida ACO in Miami;

Gary Thompson, CEO, and Gary Albers, COO, of Kentucky-based Imperium Health ACO. Coverage of the TripleAim event will appear in the next issue of AJAC, which publishes four times a year.
