Employers who manage the high cost of care associated with specialty pharmacy face a number of challenges that are being addressed by the National Employer Initiative on Specialty Pharmacy, Cheryl Larson, BA, vice president of the Midwest Business Group on Health, said at the AMCP’s 27th Annual Meeting & Expo in San Diego, April 7-10.
Among the ways the Initiative is looking to help is an online toolkit focusing on 3 key areas: providing the average employer with a better understanding of biologic and specialty drugs; benefit plan design and vendor contracting; and tools and resources to support the consumer.
“We know that we’ve done a pretty good job providing additional information and awareness to the average employer, but nobody is talking to the average consumer about this new world of high-cost drugs,” she explained.
