He added that traditionally, many health systems look to recoup lost investments through procedure revenues; however, physicians ideally want to prevent these future complications and surgeries. Dr Gabbay suggested that the cost-savings system is a way to achieve this goal.
“If you’re going to control overall costs of diabetes, you’ve got to decrease long-term complications and therefore invest in the things that we already know that work,” he said.
