ONC Effort Aims To Boost Patient Engagement Through Health IT

According to ONC, the initiative has three goals:

  • Increasing self-management and prevention;
  • Seamless interaction with the health care system; and
  • Shared management of health care (Murphy, EHR Intelligence, 1/13).

ONC said the goals will be met through initiatives already underway, including:

  • Blue Button;
  • The Consumer eHealth Program;
  • The meaningful use incentive program;
  • Federal advisory committee workgroups;
  • The Investing in Innovation Program;
  • Patient-centered outcomes research;
  • Patient-generated health data; and
  • Personalized health care
