Rebecca Killion, MA, Comments on Patient Adherence in Diabetes Treatment

Rebecca Killion, MA, McKenna Long & Aldridge, says that patients' adherence to diabetes treatment is anything but simple.

Rebecca Killion, MA, McKenna Long & Aldridge, says that patients’ adherence to diabetes treatment is anything but simple. The kinds of medications they take can vary, and there are numerous variables that affect their ability to adhere to them appropriately.

“It’s not that patients don’t want to be compliant or that they don’t adhere,” says Mr Killion. “Life is complicated, it interferes. Sometimes you forget your medication: ‘Did I take that dose? Did I take that shot?’ And then you don’t want to overdose. It’s a much more complicated process than being a bad patient or not being compliant.”
