The White House is considering Toby Cosgrove, MD, president and CEO, Cleveland Clinic, to be the next secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr Cosgrove would replace Eric Shinseki, who recently resigned after investigations revealed that military veterans were dying as the result of delays in their care at VA hospitals.

Dr Cosgrove has said he is “seriously considering” accepting the offer. Before becoming CEO of Cleveland Clinic in 2004, Dr Cosgrove served as a surgeon in the US Air Force and as chief of the Casualty Staging Flight. As CEO, Dr Cosgrove has contributed greatly to the Clinic’s growth and success.
