A recently published study used linguistic analysis to investigate communication gaps between patients with Parkinson disease and physicians about off periods using a database containing dialogues recorded during regular office visits. Not only did the recordings show 4 specific areas that need improvement, they also showed a care gap between what the physicians thought they did and what actually happened.

A report released Thursday from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine said the United States needs a US National Cancer Control Plan that uses a system approach to reshape cancer control efforts, targeting everything from prevention, machine learning, palliative care, assessing value, rooting out financial conflicts of interest, and more.

With the expected surge of aging Americans over the next few decades, states are trying to prepare for a wave of Alzheimer disease and dementia, which carries with it an enormous societal burden, extracting a toll on families and caregivers, and impacts state Medicaid budgets. In response, nearly every state is turning to Alzheimer action plans to try to cope with what is coming in the years ahead.
